How Each Alternative Compares

Dell Inspiron 15.6" Touchscreen Core i7 Laptop

The Dell Inspiron 15.6 Touchscreen offers a similar Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM, but it weighs only 4 pounds compared to the Surface Book 2’s 6 pounds. You gain a more traditional clamshell design rather than a detachable screen. This model includes a 512GB SSD for storage, matching the original’s capacity. It lacks the high-resolution 3000 x 2000 display, opting for a standard 15.6-inch touchscreen. You should choose this if you prioritize portability and a lighter chassis over the unique tablet mode and higher pixel density of the Surface Book 2.

Dell Latitude 14-Inch Intel Core i7 Laptop

The Dell Latitude 14-Inch Core i7 Laptop provides a lighter option at just 3 pounds, significantly reducing the carry weight from the 6-pound Surface Book 2. It features a 14-inch screen, which is smaller than the 15-inch display on the original. Both devices include an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM for multitasking. The Latitude focuses on a compact business form factor, sacrificing the detachable versatility of the Surface Book 2. You should pick this alternative if you need maximum portability for mobile work and do not require the larger screen real estate or tablet functionality.

MSI Katana 15 HX 15.6" QHD Gaming Laptop

The MSI Katana 15 HX shifts focus from creative work to gaming performance. It includes an RTX 5060 graphics card, which outperforms the GTX 1050 in the Surface Book 2 for rendering and gaming tasks. The screen is a 15.6-inch QHD display with a 165Hz refresh rate, offering smoother motion than the original’s 60Hz panel. Storage increases to 1TB SSD, doubling the 512GB capacity of the Surface Book 2. You should choose this if you need dedicated gaming power and higher frame rates, accepting a heavier 5.29-pound chassis and a non-detachable design in return.

Dell Latitude 14 Core i7 Laptop

The Dell Latitude 14 Core i7 Laptop is the lightest option at 2.66 pounds, making it much easier to carry than the 6-pound Surface Book 2. It uses an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM, matching the original’s multitasking capabilities. The 14-inch screen is smaller than the 15-inch display, and it lacks the detachable hinge mechanism. Storage is 512GB SSD, identical to the Surface Book 2. You should select this if you prioritize ultra-portability for business travel and office work, and do not need the high-resolution touchscreen or tablet mode of the Microsoft device.

Apple MacBook Pro 16-Inch Core i7

The Apple MacBook Pro 16-Inch Core i7 offers a larger 16-inch display compared to the 15-inch screen on the Surface Book 2. It weighs 4 pounds, which is lighter than the 6-pound original. Both devices feature an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM. The MacBook Pro includes 512GB of storage, matching the Surface Book 2’s capacity. You lose the detachable screen and Windows Hello face authentication, gaining a high-resolution Retina display instead. You should choose this if you prefer a larger screen for creative work and value the macOS ecosystem over the versatility of a 2-in-1 Windows laptop.

Dell Latitude 15.6" Core i7 Laptop

The Dell Latitude 15.6 Core i7 Laptop provides a 15.6-inch screen, slightly larger than the 15-inch display of the Surface Book 2. It weighs 5 pounds, which is lighter than the 6-pound original. Both laptops include an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM for processing tasks. The Latitude focuses on business features and a traditional clamshell design, lacking the detachable tablet mode of the Surface Book 2. You should pick this alternative if you need a larger screen for productivity tasks and prefer a standard laptop form factor with slightly better portability than the Microsoft device.
