How these alternatives compare
Dell Latitude 14 Core i5 16GB RAM Laptop
This Dell Latitude 7420 replaces the Core i7 with an 11th-gen Core i5 processor. You keep the same 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD, ensuring smooth multitasking for office tasks. The main difference is physical size. This model is significantly lighter at 3.88 pounds and thinner than the 5490. It measures 12.9 by 8.4 inches with a 0.5-inch height. If you prioritize portability and a lighter chassis over raw processor speed, this i5 option is a practical choice. It suits those who need business reliability without the extra weight of the older i7 model.
Dell Latitude 14-inch Core i7 Laptop
This Latitude 5420 retains the Core i7 processor and 16GB RAM profile of the original. It also includes a 256GB SSD. The key upgrade is connectivity, specifically Thunderbolt 4 support, which offers faster data transfer and display output options. The physical dimensions are similar, weighing 5 pounds and measuring 12.7 by 8.4 inches. This model is slightly thinner at 0.8 inches compared to the 5490. If you need modern port versatility alongside strong processing power, this pick is ideal. It fits professionals who value up-to-date connectivity standards over the older hardware generation found in the base model.
Dell Latitude 14-Inch Touchscreen Laptop
This Latitude 7490 offers a Core i7 processor and 16GB RAM, matching the original's performance tier. The standout feature is the touchscreen display, which the standard 5490 lacks. It also includes vPro security features for enhanced business management. The chassis is lighter at 3.11 pounds and measures 11 by 3 inches, though the height spec seems inconsistent with typical laptop profiles. If you require direct touch input for presentations or navigation, this model provides that capability. It suits users who want business-grade security and interactive display options without sacrificing processor speed or memory capacity.
Dell Latitude 14-Inch Intel Core i7 Laptop
This Latitude 5420 uses an 11th-gen Core i7 processor, which is newer than the 8th-gen chip in the original. It pairs this with 16GB of RAM but doubles the storage to 512GB SSD. This provides more room for files and applications. It also features Thunderbolt 4 for improved connectivity. The device weighs 3 pounds, making it notably lighter than the 5-pound original. Dimensions are 12 by 13.6 inches. If you need more storage space and a lighter build with faster modern ports, this upgraded configuration is a strong alternative. It balances performance improvements with better portability for mobile professionals.
Dell Latitude 14-Inch FHD Laptop
This Latitude 5410 steps down to an Intel Core i5 processor while maintaining 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. This configuration is sufficient for standard business multitasking but offers less raw processing power than the i7 original. The device weighs 3 pounds, significantly lighter than the 5-pound 5490. It measures 13 by 10 inches. If your workflow does not require the higher clock speeds of an i7 processor, this i5 model provides a solid, lighter option for everyday office work. It is best for users who prioritize weight reduction and cost efficiency over maximum computational performance.
Dell Latitude Rugged 14" Touchscreen Laptop
This Rugged 5420 uses an Intel Core i5 processor, offering less speed than the original i7. It includes 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. The primary difference is its durable, rugged build designed for harsh environments. It features a touchscreen display and weighs 3.88 pounds. The dimensions are 13.7 by 9.63 inches with a 1.3-inch height. This model is thicker and built for resilience rather than sleekness. If you work in field service or industrial settings where durability is critical, this rugged chassis is the appropriate choice.
