If you need a stationary system instead of a portable laptop, compare the best RTX 5070 gaming desktops.
How to choose the right one
-
Prioritize screen size
Screen size dictates portability and immersion. The MSI Katana 15 HX fits in a 15.6-inch chassis, making it easier to carry than larger models. If you need a desktop replacement, the MSI Crosshair 18 offers an 18-inch panel. Larger screens provide more workspace but increase weight and bulk. Decide if you need a mobile unit or a stationary setup before comparing other specs.
-
Check RAM capacity
Memory determines multitasking ability. Most listed models include 32GB of RAM, which handles heavy workloads and high-resolution gaming well. The MSI Crosshair 18 Core Ultra 9 goes further with 64GB of RAM for extreme multitasking. Some models offer only 16GB, which may limit performance in demanding scenarios. Verify the RAM amount matches your software needs to avoid bottlenecks during intensive tasks.
-
Compare processor types
The CPU handles general computing tasks. Options range from Intel Core i7 to Core Ultra 9 and AMD Ryzen 9. The top pick features an Intel Core i9 for top-end compute performance. Higher core counts, such as the 24-core Intel CPU in the Crosshair 18, benefit productivity and content creation. Match the processor tier to your workload intensity, as higher tiers offer greater throughput for complex applications.
-
Evaluate refresh rates
Refresh rate affects visual smoothness. Many models feature 240Hz panels, providing faster frame updates for competitive gaming. The MSI Katana 15 HX uses a 165Hz screen, which still offers solid performance for most titles. Higher refresh rates reduce motion blur. Check the specification to ensure the display matches your gaming style, as 240Hz panels are common in the larger 18-inch chassis models.
-
Assess storage needs
Storage holds your games and files. Most laptops include 1TB SSDs, which provide ample space for modern titles. The MSI Katana 15.6" QHD model offers 2TB of storage, reducing the need for external drives. The Crosshair 18 also provides 2TB in some configurations. Verify the SSD capacity to ensure you can install your desired library without managing space constraints frequently.

The top pick, the MSI Katana 15 HX, includes a 1TB SSD. This provides ample space for games and applications. Other models offer larger storage, such as 2TB SSDs in some Crosshair 18 versions. The 1TB drive is sufficient for most users who need balanced premium hardware.
What refresh rate do these gaming laptops have?
