6 Best Alternatives to the Msi Katana 15 HX RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop (2026)

How these alternatives differ

GIGABYTE A16 16" RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop

The GIGABYTE A16 keeps the same RTX 5070 graphics card and 165Hz refresh rate you get in the MSI Katana 15 HX. It swaps the Intel Core i7 for another Intel Core i7 processor, so CPU speed remains comparable. The main difference is the screen size. You get a 16-inch display instead of the 15.6-inch QHD panel. This model weighs 4.85 pounds, which is slightly lighter than the 5.29-pound MSI. It also has a thinner profile at 0.91 inches high. If you prefer a larger viewing area without losing GPU power, this is a practical choice. It offers similar storage with 1TB of SSD space. The trade-off is that you give up the specific QHD resolution of the MSI for a standard 16-inch panel.

HP OMEN 16 RTX 5070 Ryzen 9 Laptop

The HP OMEN 16 RTX 5070 Ryzen 9 Laptop steps up the processing power significantly. While the MSI Katana 15 HX uses an Intel Core i7, this HP model features a Ryzen 9 processor. This provides stronger multi-core performance for heavy multitasking and creative workloads. Both laptops include 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. The HP OMEN 16 also offers a faster 240Hz refresh rate compared to the 165Hz panel on the MSI. You get a 16-inch screen instead of the 15.6-inch display. The chassis is slightly heavier at 5.4 pounds. This option suits users who need more CPU headroom for video editing or streaming while gaming. It maintains the same RTX 5070 graphics capability for consistent visual performance.

ASUS ROG Strix G16 RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop

The ASUS ROG Strix G16 RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop pairs the RTX 5070 GPU with a Ryzen 9 processor. This gives you more processing power than the Intel Core i7 in the MSI Katana 15 HX. You also receive a 16-inch screen, which is larger than the 15.6-inch panel on the MSI. Both models feature 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. The ASUS unit is heavier, weighing 5.51 pounds, and thicker at 1.2 inches compared to the 0.99-inch MSI. It is designed for users who prioritize raw performance and a larger display area. The trade-off is increased weight and size for better thermal headroom and CPU speed. If you do mobile gaming, the MSI remains more portable. For stationary use, the ASUS offers superior processing capabilities.

Alienware x15 R1 RTX 3070 Gaming Laptop

The Alienware x15 R1 RTX 3070 Gaming Laptop is an older generation option. It uses an RTX 3070 graphics card, which is less powerful than the RTX 5070 in the MSI Katana 15 HX. It retains the 15.6-inch screen size and 16GB of RAM with 1TB of SSD storage. The processor is an Intel Core i7, similar to the MSI. This model is notable for its thin profile at 0.62 inches high, making it more portable than the 0.99-inch MSI. It weighs 5 pounds, slightly less than the MSI. This choice fits users who want a compact 15.6-inch form factor and do not need the latest GPU generation. You sacrifice modern graphics performance and newer features for a slimmer chassis. It is a viable alternative if portability is your primary concern over raw power.

Dell Alienware 16X 16-inch RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop

The Dell Alienware 16X 16-inch RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop upgrades the processor to an Intel Core Ultra 9. This provides significantly more computing power than the Intel Core i7 in the MSI Katana 15 HX. You also get a larger 16-inch screen compared to the 15.6-inch panel on the MSI. Both laptops feature 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. The Dell model is heavier at 5.66 pounds and thicker at 0.92 inches. It is built for users who need top-tier processing for creative work alongside gaming. The RTX 5070 ensures strong graphics performance in both machines. The Dell offers a more powerful CPU and larger display. However, it is less portable and costs more in terms of weight. It is ideal for desktop replacements rather than mobile gaming.

MSI Crosshair 18 HX AI RTX 5070 Laptop

The MSI Crosshair 18 HX AI RTX 5070 Laptop is a desktop replacement with an 18-inch screen. This is significantly larger than the 15.6-inch display on the MSI Katana 15 HX. It features an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, which is more powerful than the i7 in the original model. Both laptops include the RTX 5070 graphics card, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of SSD storage. The Crosshair 18 is much heavier at 6.83 pounds and thicker at 1.17 inches. It is designed for users who want maximum screen real estate and do not move their laptop often. You gain a larger viewing area and stronger CPU performance. The trade-off is substantial weight and reduced portability. If you need a large screen for gaming or content creation, this model is the superior choice.
