Msi Katana 15 HX 15.6" Gaming Laptop Alternatives: 6 Similar Picks Compared

How these alternatives compare

Lenovo Legion 5 RTX 5070 OLED

The Lenovo Legion 5 RTX 5070 OLED shares the same Intel Core i9 processor, 32GB RAM, and RTX 5070 graphics as the MSI Katana 15 HX. It also matches the 1TB SSD storage and 165Hz refresh rate. The key difference is the OLED display, which offers superior color accuracy and contrast for content creation and cinematic gaming. While the MSI relies on standard panel technology, this Lenovo model prioritizes visual fidelity. You should consider this alternative if you value screen quality and color precision over the specific cooling design of the Katana. Both machines target high-end performance in a similar form factor, making this a choice between display technology and brand preference.

MSI Katana RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop

The MSI Katana RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop uses an Intel Core i7 processor instead of the i9 found in the original model. It retains the same 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 5070 graphics, and 165Hz refresh rate. This downgrade in CPU power makes it a more budget-friendly option for gamers who do not need the extreme multitasking capabilities of the i9-14900HX. The screen size remains 15.6 inches, keeping the footprint familiar. You should pick this version if you want the same GPU performance and memory but are willing to sacrifice top-tier processing speed for a lower entry point. It is ideal for players who focus primarily on gaming rather than heavy creative workloads.

ASUS ROG Strix G16 RTX 5070 Laptop

The ASUS ROG Strix G16 swaps the Intel Core i9 for a Ryzen 9 processor while keeping the RTX 5070, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD. It features a 16-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate, offering a slightly larger screen than the 15.6-inch MSI. The inclusion of a docking station is a unique addition not present in the Katana lineup. This alternative suits users who prefer AMD’s Ryzen architecture or need the extra screen real estate for productivity alongside gaming. The performance profile shifts from Intel’s hybrid architecture to AMD’s power, which may appeal to those who prioritize raw multi-core efficiency. It is a strong choice if you want a larger display and included accessories without changing your GPU expectations.

Lenovo Legion 5 15.1" OLED Gaming Laptop

The Lenovo Legion 5 15.1" OLED Gaming Laptop matches the original with an Intel Core i9 processor and RTX 5070 graphics. It includes 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage. The main distinction is the 15.1-inch OLED screen, which provides deeper blacks and vibrant colors compared to the standard display on the MSI Katana. This model is slightly smaller in width, offering a marginally more compact chassis. You should choose this alternative if you prioritize visual quality and color accuracy for both gaming and media consumption. It serves creators and gamers who want high-end internals paired with a premium display panel, differing from the Katana’s focus on raw specs and cooling efficiency.

Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 RTX 5070

The Acer Predator Helios Neo 14 RTX 5070 is a significant departure in size, featuring a 14.5-inch display instead of the 15.6-inch screen on the MSI Katana 15 HX. It uses an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, which integrates AI capabilities, alongside the same RTX 5070, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD. The 165Hz refresh rate is maintained. This laptop is designed for portability, fitting into a smaller chassis that is easier to carry. You should pick this version if you need high performance in a more compact package. It is ideal for users who travel frequently or have limited desk space but still demand top-tier graphics and processing power. The trade-off is a smaller screen for greater mobility.

GIGABYTE AERO X16 16-Inch RTX 5070 Laptop

The GIGABYTE AERO X16 16-Inch RTX 5070 Laptop offers a 16-inch display, which is larger than the 15.6-inch screen on the MSI Katana 15 HX. It includes 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage with the RTX 5070 graphics card. The processor details are not specified in the provided data, but the focus is on a compact, high-performance build suitable for AI gaming and creation. This model targets users who want a larger screen and strong specs in a slim chassis. You should consider this alternative if you prioritize a balance between portability and display size. It is a good fit for creators and gamers who need a versatile machine without the bulk of larger gaming laptops, differing from the Katana’s specific cooling and port layout.
