Our top pick: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 14".
How Each Alternative Compares
Dell Inspiron 15.6" Touchscreen Core i7 Laptop
The Dell Inspiron 15.6 Touchscreen offers a larger 15.6-inch display and touch input, which the X1 Carbon Gen 10 lacks. You gain significant screen real estate for spreadsheets or media, but you trade the X1's 2.48-pound portability for a heavier 4-pound chassis. The dimensions are wider and deeper, making it less ideal for tight carry-on spaces. It shares the same 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage capacity, ensuring similar multitasking capability. Choose this if you prioritize a large touchscreen interface over the ultra-lightweight carbon fiber build of the ThinkPad.
Dell Latitude 14 Core i7 Laptop
The Dell Latitude 7420 provides similar portability with a 2.66-pound weight, though it is slightly heavier than the X1 Carbon's 2.48 pounds. It features a 14-inch screen, matching the form factor you might expect from an alternative. However, it uses an older 11th Gen processor compared to the X1's 12th Gen i7, which may affect peak performance in demanding tasks. Both offer 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage. This model is a practical choice if you need a reliable 14-inch business laptop with comparable specs but prefer a different brand ecosystem or budget tier.
Dell Latitude 15.6" Core i7 Laptop
The Dell Latitude 5520 is a desktop replacement with a 15.6-inch screen, significantly larger than the X1 Carbon's 14-inch panel. It weighs 5 pounds, making it unsuitable for frequent travel compared to the X1's lightweight design. The dimensions are much bulkier, with a width of 15.4 inches versus 12.4 inches. It retains the 16GB RAM and business-focused use case, but sacrifices mobility for screen space. Select this alternative if you primarily work at a desk and need a larger display area, accepting the trade-off in weight and portability.
Dell Latitude 13.3" Core i7 Business Laptop
The Dell Latitude 7320 features a 13.3-inch screen, which is smaller than the X1 Carbon's 14-inch display. It weighs 3 pounds, making it noticeably heavier than the X1's 2.48-pound chassis. The physical dimensions are wider, at 14 inches in length compared to 12.4 inches, affecting pocketability. It shares the 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD specifications, ensuring similar storage and memory performance. This model suits users who want a compact business laptop with enterprise security features, even if the screen is smaller and the weight is higher than the ultra-portable ThinkPad.
Apple MacBook Pro 15-Inch Intel Core i7
The Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch offers a macOS environment, a complete shift from the Windows 11 Pro on the X1 Carbon. It features a 15-inch screen, providing more vertical space than the X1's 14-inch panel. The weight is listed as 2.12 ounces in the data, which appears to be a data anomaly, but the 15-inch form factor generally implies a heavier build than the X1's ultralight design. It shares 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage. Choose this if you require macOS for specific software, accepting a different operating system and potentially larger footprint than the Windows-based ThinkPad.
Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 14" Core i7
The Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 is a direct sibling with a 14-inch screen, matching the X1 Carbon's display size. It weighs 2.9 pounds, which is 0.42 pounds heavier than the X1's 2.48-pound carbon fiber build. The chassis is thicker at 0.7 inches compared to 0.59 inches, reducing its sleekness. It offers the same 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD, ensuring identical memory and storage capacity. This model is a solid alternative if you prefer the ThinkPad T-series design or need a high-resolution display option, while accepting a slight increase in weight and thickness.
