Looking Beyond the GIGABYTE AORUS 16 RTX 4060 Gaming Laptop? 6 Alternatives Worth a Look

How alternatives compare to AORUS 16

GIGABYTE A16 16" RTX 5070 Gaming Laptop

The GIGABYTE A16 swaps the 240Hz QHD+ screen for a 165Hz display, which may feel less smooth to competitive gamers. It replaces the Intel Core i7 with another i7 processor and upgrades the GPU to the RTX 5070. This new graphics card offers higher performance potential than the RTX 4060 in the original. You gain about half a pound in weight reduction, moving from 5.73 to 4.85 pounds. The chassis is slightly thinner at 0.91 inches compared to 0.77 inches, though the height metric suggests a different design profile. This model suits users who prioritize newer GPU architecture and lighter portability over maximum screen refresh rates and resolution sharpness.

MSI Katana 15 15.6" RTX 4070 Gaming Laptop

The MSI Katana 15 reduces the screen size from 16.0 inches to 15.6 inches, changing the aspect ratio and visual field. It upgrades the graphics card to an RTX 4070, providing more rendering power than the RTX 4060. However, the refresh rate drops to 144Hz, which is slower than the 240Hz panel on the AORUS 16. You also switch from DDR5 4800 memory to unspecified DDR5 speeds, though capacity remains at 16GB. The most significant trade-off is weight; this laptop weighs 7.59 pounds, making it nearly two pounds heavier than the original. It is best for gamers who want a compact 15-inch form factor and higher graphics performance, accepting the added bulk and lower refresh rate.

ASUS TUF 16" RTX 4060 Gaming Laptop

The ASUS TUF 16 keeps the 16-inch screen size but changes the resolution to 1080p, which is less sharp than the QHD+ panel on the AORUS 16. It uses a Ryzen 7 processor instead of the Intel Core i7, offering different multi-threading performance characteristics. The graphics card remains an RTX 4060, so gaming performance is similar, but the refresh rate is 165Hz, which is slower than the 240Hz display. You save significant weight, dropping from 5.73 to 4.85 pounds. The chassis is also slightly narrower at 9.92 inches. This option fits users who value Thunderbolt 4 connectivity and lighter portability over high-resolution visuals and maximum frame rates.

MSI Stealth 14 AI Studio RTX 4060 Laptop

The MSI Stealth 14 AI Studio reduces the screen size to 14 inches, making it significantly more portable than the 16-inch AORUS 16. It retains the RTX 4060 graphics card, so raw gaming performance is comparable, but the smaller screen changes your visual experience. The refresh rate is 165Hz, which is slower than the 240Hz panel. You gain a major weight advantage, as this laptop weighs only 3.75 pounds compared to 5.73 pounds. The chassis is much thinner and narrower, measuring 0.75 inches high and 9.69 inches wide. This model is ideal for travelers and students who need a powerful GPU in a highly compact package and do not require a large, high-refresh-rate display.

LG gram 17 Lightweight Laptop

The LG gram 17 offers a much larger 17-inch screen but lacks a dedicated graphics card, relying on integrated graphics instead of the RTX 4060. This means it is not suitable for high-performance gaming. The processor is an Intel Core i7, similar to the original, and memory is 16GB. The standout feature is weight; at 2.98 pounds, it is nearly three pounds lighter than the AORUS 16. The chassis is also thinner at 0.7 inches. This laptop is designed for content creators and professionals who prioritize color accuracy, portability, and battery life over gaming capability. It fits users who carry their device daily and need a large display for productivity tasks rather than gaming.

GIGABYTE Aorus 17 RTX 4070

The GIGABYTE AORUS 17 increases the screen size to 17.3 inches, providing a larger viewing area than the 16-inch AORUS 16. It upgrades the graphics card to an RTX 4070, offering better performance than the RTX 4060. The refresh rate remains at 240Hz, matching the original's speed. However, you trade portability for size and power; this laptop weighs 6.22 pounds, which is heavier than the 5.73-pound original. The chassis is also wider and longer. This model is best for gamers who want an immersive large-screen experience and higher graphics performance, and who do not mind carrying a heavier device for stationary gaming sessions.
