How these alternatives compare
Dell Latitude 14-Inch Touchscreen Laptop
This Dell Latitude 7490 offers a touchscreen display, which the original Latitude 5420 lacks. It also features Intel vPro technology for enhanced security and remote management capabilities. You get similar 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage for multitasking. The processor is an Intel Core i7, matching the original’s performance class. However, it is slightly heavier at 3.11 pounds compared to the original’s 5 pounds listed weight. This model suits business users who need touch input and enterprise-grade security features. It is less ideal if you prefer a standard non-touch interface or require the specific Thunderbolt 4 connectivity found on the newer 5420 model.
Dell Latitude 14-Inch Core i7 Laptop
The Dell Latitude 5490 provides a 14-inch form factor with 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD, matching the original’s memory and storage. It uses an Intel Core i7 processor for business multitasking. This model is generally an older generation than the 11th Gen i7-1185G7 in the original, so it may offer slightly less raw processing power. The dimensions are similar, but the weight is listed at 5 pounds, identical to the original’s listed weight. You should pick this alternative if you find it at a lower price point. It is suitable for users who prioritize reliable daily computing over the latest chip generation or specific modern port configurations like Thunderbolt 4.
Dell Latitude 14-Inch Intel Core i7 Laptop
This Latitude 5420 variant distinguishes itself with a larger 512GB SSD, doubling the storage capacity of the original’s 256GB drive. It shares the same 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor and 16GB RAM, ensuring identical processing performance. The weight is listed at 3 pounds, which is lighter than the original’s 5 pounds. You get the same Windows 11 Pro and connectivity options. This model is ideal if you need more space for files and applications without sacrificing speed. It is a strong choice for professionals who require ample storage for documents and media. It matches the original’s performance but offers greater storage flexibility and potentially better portability due to the lower weight specification.
Dell Latitude 14-Inch FHD Laptop
The Dell Latitude 5410 uses an Intel Core i5 processor instead of the i7 found in the original. It retains 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage, matching the memory and capacity of the base model. The screen size is also 14 inches. This model is lighter at 3 pounds compared to the original’s 5 pounds. You get a practical business laptop for office work and travel. However, the i5 chip offers less processing power than the i7-1185G7. This alternative is best for users who prioritize portability and cost over maximum performance. It is suitable for light multitasking and standard business applications rather than heavy data processing or intensive multitasking workflows.
Dell Latitude 14 Core i5 16GB RAM Laptop
The Dell Latitude 7420 features an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, which is less powerful than the i7 in the original. It includes 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD, matching the memory and storage specs. The weight is 3.88 pounds, slightly lighter than the original’s 5 pounds. It offers Thunderbolt connectivity, similar to the original’s Thunderbolt 4 ports. This model is designed for lightweight business multitasking and portability. You should choose this if you value a slim profile and reliable daily performance over high-end processing power. It is ideal for professionals who travel frequently and need a balance of performance and weight, rather than those requiring the extra speed of an i7 chip.
Dell Latitude Rugged 14" Touchscreen Laptop
The Dell Latitude Rugged 5420 is built for durability, featuring a touchscreen and rugged design. It uses an Intel Core i5-8350U processor, which is an older and slower chip than the i7-1185G7 in the original. It has 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD, matching the memory and storage. The weight is 3.88 pounds. This model is ideal for field work and challenging environments where toughness is more important than speed. You give up raw processing power and modern connectivity for physical durability and touch input. It is not suitable for users who need high-performance computing or standard business portability. It is a specialized tool for professionals working in harsh conditions.
